The common aspect of all of the threads that I have looked at is that the problem occurs immediately after installing Office M Anbu however, has been able to install Office 97 on a number of machines without seeing this issue occur. One notable aspect here is that in his testing, Office 97 has been installed on 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 Enterprise.

I installed Office 97 on XP home. The installation seemed to go fine, however, it was very unstable. I experienced quite a few problems while using Word. It would not save documents properly, and sometimes I would loose work all together. Due to system corruption, which may or may not have been due to Office 97, I ended up having to reinstall Win XP, needless to say, I didn't reinstall Office I would NOT recommend it!
