Does an LPG tank serving a domestic property need earthing? I was planning just to put a main earth bond onto pipe where it comes into property. But does the tank itself need earthing to prevent static electricity?? Reaction score 5, Click to expand Marvo - Staff member. Reaction score 9, Yes, an LPG bulk storage tank should have it's own earth. LPG storage is a completely separate area of expertise with it's own set of regs.
You shouldn't undertake any work on an LPG installation unless you're familiar with those regs and you must have a copy of those regs plus you must be insured to undertake LPG storage work. I did not know that cheers, does that include wiring the oil boilers.
Marvo said:. What happens when the property is being rewired, and the tank is already there?? Can i not just put an earth on the pipe where it enters the property , or am i not insured to do that??????????????? If the storage tank is not on the property then you shouldn't need to go anywhere near it but your first question was whether the LPG tank needed earthing I'm suspecting I'm not understanding your question. When you say property are you meaning on the grounds or just in the house?
Also when you say tank do you mean bulk storage that's refilled by a truck or do you mean a bottle you throw in your boot and exchange for a full one at the local hardware or garage?
The only thing you should need to do is the usual crossbonding of the services at the CU. Do not attempt to do gas work yourself or to use a tradesperson who does not have specialist gas training and a specific gas fitter license. Licensed gas fitters have a gas fitter number, issued by their State regulatory authority, authorising them to carry out gas fitting work.
Some States have different endorsements for different types of gas fitting work, such as gas appliance conversions.
